Featured Pafian 1.7 Part 2

Interviewee: Mariyam Khanani
Interviewer: Lubaina Ehsan

Q1. Describe your passion for photography in three words.
Ans1. Zealous, enthusiastic and never-ending fun!

Q2. The quote of 'Monkey with a DSLR'. What's your take on that as a photographer?
Ans2. It is true that every person with a DSLR thinks themselves as a photographer, but to me the remark of being a ‘monkey’ is just by the people for those who roam around with a DSLR for public approval. Photography is what I do for my own happiness, it is one of my hobbies, and not to get into the Public’s eye.

Q3. Being a PAFMUN 2013 Photographer. How was the feeling?
It was a great feeling to be the photographer at PAFMUN 2013… We learned a lot... Although it was a bit tiring but over all I had a great and memorable time.

Q1. Why Photography?

Photography… Mhmm. Well, for most of the people it’s just a way to gather some crowd or maybe some likes on their photography page or attention, in fact people did assume that I am one of them as well. Now, comes the question that why photography? Well, it isn’t just me but my whole family is pretty crazy about photography, my dad loved it and my brother loved it too. So, the interest of capturing memorable moments developed in me as well... Although, I’m not a pretty good photographer and I accept that I’m just in the process of learning and that every event like PAFMUN 2013 or LUMS PsiFi is just an opportunity to learn and discover more. I’m thankful to Osama Khalil and Jehanzeb Raza Husain who are always there to correct me and teach me the basic essence of photography.

Q2. How does it feel when people call out 'meri bhi tasveer, meri bhiiii'?
Hahahaha. That’s the most interesting part of it. Damn, it feels amazing when someone is like "yaar bhai eik tasveer hojai"

Q3. What was your best moment at PAFMUN 2013 as a photographer?
The best moment about PAFMUN 2013 was when I along with Nida, Zohaib (Our beloved head of the creative department), Murad and Fahad were taking interviews for PAFMUN Closing Ceremony’s short video.

1. Do you regret now being on the other side of the camera?

No. I get to capture people and their expressions at different moments and love it when they appreciate my work. It makes me proud when I am praised and known well for my photography. I try to be creative and love doing it every time at different occasions. I don’t regret being on the other side because I am lucky to have friends who are also fond of taking pictures and capture me.2. Describe the feeling when random girls run after you to get their pictures taken?

Haha. Who doesn’t love being followed by girls. It’s fun to hear girls shouting my name in the huge corridor and saying 'Waleed, ek picture please.'

3. What made PAFMUN'13 special for you?

Okay, So Pafmun 2013. A tiring yet amazing experience. It was my first official chance to prove my love for photography. Those four days are undoubtedly unforgettable. I certainly became one of the most important persons in those days. "Waleed, picture please!" were the words i heard the most. A lot of girls screaming and asking for pictures. It was fun! Haha. Jokes apart, it wasn't an easy event to cover. And ofcourse without the inspiration i get from Shan, the instructions from Zohaib and the support from Babar it wouldnt have been possible. A lot of hurdles had to be crossed and by the grace of Allah, i was able to tackle all of them PAFMUN was LOVE.

1. Rate your PAFMUN experience?

It was an AWESOME experience. Had lot of fun capturing the amazing moments of PAFMUN. The committee sessions and the social events were very entertaining. I aslo learnt a lot and it helped to improve my photography skills.

2. How does it feel when people around you upload pictures with your watermark on them?

Its a great pleasure when people upload my pics and its an honour when my work is appreciated. My friend got crazy the way i covered the event. They were like "Oye Hunter, chah gya tu toh". I felt like flying.

3. If you could go back to PAFMUN, what one moment would you want to capture or recapture differently?

3) That would be Go-Aish Park. I wasnt able to have good shots, as I took the wrong lens with me. I didnt know the the lightning would be so awful. Otherwise the MUN shots were perfect.
