A dialogue with Tooba Javaid – The PAFian Basketball Star!
Sports do not build character. They reveal it.
-John Wooden
1910-, American Basketball Coach
Q: Are the rumors true that, “you were born with a basketball?”
charm comes from.
Q: When did you step into the basketball court as one of the five players?
A: I stepped on court the first time when I was only 12 though I remember joining the team when
I was 14, so officially it's 14.
Q: Have you ever felt the beads of perspiration before a full fledged basketball match?
A: Previously, I used to be a bundle of nerves before the match, I guess it was the crowd that’d
make me go nervous. But then I overcame it and now I am sort of used to it.
Q: Who is your basketball icon?
A: Dirk Nowitzki of the Dallas Mavericks (National Basketball Association).
Q: A two word question: Why basketball?
A: Basketball is my life. Not verily sure why basketball only, but seems like I'm destined for it.
Q: Can you relate any unforgettable moment at the court?
A: The most motivating part in the court is listening to the crowd talk about how awesome my
game is. This really gives me the butterflies that I can’t just ignore ;)
Q: So, how do you manage a balance between studies and sports?
A: I’ll say, it is never a balance. My life is about 75% of basketball and 25% studies! Though it
might seem awkward but I'm on a 100 % scholarship because of my grades :p
Q: The buzzer question: How does it feel to be a basketball star?
A: Nothing less than a DREAM come true :D
Q: Message you’d like to give to the newcomers in basketball?
A: Keep dreaming and dream big because each dream helps you move a step ahead in the midst of all
the ups and downs. For me first it was to become a part of the team, then to lead it, next in line
was the dream to be the MVP and the list never ends. So yeah, never stop dreaming and then
strive hard to make that dream… a reality.

Q: Even though the previous question seemed like the last one, but just out of curiosity; How far will all the basket-balling go with you? :)
A: I dream high. I have had many national basketball opportunities and offers personally, but I haven't been able to avail them, so in future if there comes any such opportunity I’d definitely like to
pursue that! *Fingers crossed*
