Heard of the Pafian who won at UNSC ROTMUN 2012?
YES, he won an honorable mention at SECURITY COUNCIL!
Here's to the guy who won't eat from the 'Thela waalas', would drive under the speed of 30km/hours and MUN like a K3Wlx Dude xD
1. How did you feel when your name was announced as the achiever of the honorable mention?
3.ROTMUN is one of the most prestigious MUN's of Karachi. While preparing for ROTMUN did you set a goal of winning an award? How did you prepare for it?
4.How do you feel this MUN differed from all other MUNs?
5. What advice would you like to give to other MUNers out there?
Ms. Umama Qadri. What comes to mind when you hear that name? Well, its a no-brainer.
Some may think, netball champion. Others might recall, throw ball to be her sport. When in fact this girl has turned numerous games into 'her' games. Recently she was named the 'Player of the Match' in the Netball tournament in which PAF Chapter's team did a fantastic job.
So why not get the inside scoop on one of Chapter's most valued gems!
And girls, you might want to read on. I even asked Umama how she keeps herself from getting tanned. ;)
Q. Since when have you been playing?
Ans. I started playing in the 6th grade and I began to take part in national and international competitions a year later when I got into the 7th grade.
Q. What do you consider as your biggest win to date?
Ans. I won the Benazir Bhutto award for being Sindhs best player. Along with the award I received a cash prize of one lac rupees.
Q. Wow. That's quite a win. Any other cash prizes which you received?
Ans. I got 50,000 rupees for another competition. Also, as I used to play under contract of the Pakistan army I was paid 7000 rupees per month. i am very proud of what I have achieved until now and only want it to go further and earn even more.
Q. Any upcoming competitions which you will be taking part in?
Ans. There's the National Games in Lahore which will take place in January. Hoping that those will go well for me as well.
Q. All the girls might be interested in this one. Why don't you get tanned!?
Ans. *laughs* I try and keep my complexion as it is by using quite a few treatments. I use things such as tomatoes, yoghurt, turmeric, milk with lemon, 'basin' and 'jau ka aata'.
Q. Do you think your passion for sports takes a toll on your studies?
Ans. Yes, well my studies do get effected but I am usually able to cover up the lessons which I have missed hence it doesn't really prove to be much of an issue at the end of the day.
Q. If you weren't playing sports, what would you be doing?
Ans. Nothing. I wouldn't replace sports for ANYTHING. Apart from the sports which I pursue I also play basketball at a school level but netball is my top priority and can not be replaced by any sport or activity.
Q. What does the future have in store for Umama Qadri?
Ans. Well, I want a Masters in Physical Education followed by a job which hopefully I will be doing at a government post.
Q. One thing we all want to know, Have you EVER lost anything in your entire sports career?
Ans. Yes, my nails. :(

1. How did you feel when your name was announced as the achiever of the honorable mention?
It was fairly overwhelming, to be honest. The intensity of competitiveness in the Security Council was staggering; I did not quite conceive the idea of winning an award. To have attained an honorable mention in the UNSC, as trifling as that maybe, was a definite source of contentment for me. A memorable moment.
2. Your committee was security council. Having won an award in this council do you feel that it is overrated?
I wouldn’t say so. The Security Council pushes one to the absolute edge. It’s a high-speed, fast-paced and highly dynamic committee in general; therefore, the SC duly deserves the reputation it has garnered in the world of MUN’s.
3.ROTMUN is one of the most prestigious MUN's of Karachi. While preparing for ROTMUN did you set a goal of winning an award? How did you prepare for it?
ROTMUN is a venerated and prominent event, and is considered to be an integral part of the MUN-ing circuit in Pakistan. The idea of participating in ROTMUN was slightly intimidating; nevertheless, I perceived it as a challenge. Evidently, everyone aspires to achieve victory, and strive for success. I didn’t think differently. As far as preparation is concerned, it is crucial to thoroughly explore the topic and area under discussion, but that being said and done; the heads of the Public Speaking Society put in a lot of effort and exhibited unconditional commitment towards readying us for ROTMUN. I, for one, couldn’t have asked for more.
4.How do you feel this MUN differed from all other MUNs?
I cannot accurately compare ROTMUN with other MUN’s, as this was only the second MUN conference I had the pleasure of participating in. Having said that, the level of debate was phenomenal; moreover, it was a remarkable learning experience for me, and well worth giving it my time.
5. What advice would you like to give to other MUNers out there?
I don’t believe I’m in a position to fittingly give advice to other MUN-ers. I, myself, am still learning the tricks of the trade. However, what I’ve learnt from my negligible experience in the world of MUN’s; one should be able to think on their feet, analyse evolving circumstances adeptly, and support their argument, with facts and figures, yes, but more so with logic and tactful rationality.

Bravo Fares!
I had complete faith in you when I placed you in 'hell' despite your initial reservations.
Your achievement can only be defined as LEGENDARY :D
Indeed, Fares deserved what he got. The SC is the pinnacle of every MUN. To win there is a MUNer's dream, and look's like Fares has already lived that dream! Keep it up!
